Yes, we can say fairly conclusively that Prime Opinion is a legitimate site that’s safe to use. It’s owned by a market research company called Prime Insights, which is headquartered in Delaware, US and Dusseldorf, Germany.

The value of 1 point on Prime Opinion depends somewhat on the method you choose for redemption and the amount you redeem.

However, in most cases, 1 point is worth 1 cent. This means you need 100 points to earn $1.

How much do you need to earn to get paid?

To get paid on Prime Opinion, you’ll need at least 500 points, which is usually equivalent to $5. However, you can choose to forfeit this low redemption threshold in exchange for a larger signup bonus. We’ll go into more detail about this later in the section on signing up.

How long does it take to get paid?

Prime Opinion says that when you withdraw cash or gift cards on the site, you’ll receive them immediately.

Is there a limit on how much you can earn?

Prime Opinion says that there’s no limit on how many surveys you can complete in a day, which means that there’s no limit on how much you can earn.

However, their “Help” section also says that, depending on your location and profile, you may run out of surveys occasionally (in which case you should come back a few hours later), so in practice, this may limit the amount you can earn.

We didn’t run out of surveys at any point while we were testing, so as Prime Opinion says, this may be an infrequent occurrence.

Signing up

The signup process for Prime Opinion is easy. You just have to enter your email address, choose a password, and confirm your email address by clicking the link that they send you.

You will get a bonus for signing up. Unusually, the amount depends on the minimum redemption threshold you choose. Prime Opinion gives you three options:

We chose the smallest bonus of 100 points to get the fastest possible payout.

After you pick your welcome bonus, you’ll have to complete an initial survey to unlock all of the others on the site. The first survey is worth 20 points (about $0.20), and Prime Opinion estimates that it will take 2 minutes.

Our experience

Signing up for Prime Opinion took us less than 2 minutes. We then did the “First Survey,” which, as predicted, took us just 2 more minutes.

We appeared to earn 21 points (worth about $0.21) instead of the 20 points Prime Opinion promised. We’re not sure where the extra point came from. Perhaps our answers were particularly impressive.

Taking surveys

After you’ve signed up for Prime Opinion and completed the first survey, you’ll get access to a host of other surveys. These are organized into the following tabs:

• Best Match: These are the surveys you’re most likely to qualify for. They’re presumably chosen according to your answers to the initial survey.
• Short Surveys: These surveys are organized in order of estimated duration, arranged from shortest to longest.
• Most Points: These surveys are organized according to the amount of rewards on offer, arranged from best-compensated to worst-compensated.

Our experience

To give you an idea of how long the Prime Opinion surveys are and how many points they give you, most of those we saw were worth between 9 and 280 points and were estimated to take between 1 and 37 minutes. Needless to say, these are fairly wide ranges.

As we’ve already mentioned, we had to do the first survey to complete the signup process and unlock others. After this, we took another 19 surveys. Of these:

• 7 were successful and gave us points
• 4 disqualified us but gave us a point or two for trying
• 8 disqualified us and gave us no points

Best survey experience: $8.10 per hour

The best survey we did took us just 8 minutes to complete and paid us 108 points—equivalent to an hourly rate of $8.10.

Worst survey experience: $1.28 per hour

Apart from the surveys that disqualified us with no rewards (most of which we only spent 1–3 minutes on), the worst survey we did took us 14 minutes and gave us 30 points, which is equivalent to an hourly rate of just $1.28.

Referring friends

You can get extra rewards on Prime Opinion by inviting your friends to join the site. To refer someone, send them the referral link you should find under the “More” tab.

For you to receive your reward, your friend must use your link to sign up and take enough surveys to redeem their first reward. You’ll then receive a bonus of 100 points after they redeem.

Prime Opinion has extra features that will help you earn more points.

Unlocking achievements

There are four achievements you can unlock on the Prime Opinion site. You get these by completing:

1. 5 surveys to get 25 points
2. 50 surveys to get 250 points
3. 500 surveys to get 2,500 points
4. 5,000 surveys to get 10,000 points

Our experience

We unlocked our first achievement. Prime Opinion gave us a 25-point reward, as promised.

Qualifying for the Leaderboard

You need to take 10 surveys before you can qualify for the Prime Opinion Leaderboard. According to online reports, users who make the Leaderboard get bonuses as a perk for being so active.

However, we found no specific information about these bonuses on the Prime Opinion site. It’s unclear how large they are.

Our experience

We didn’t complete enough surveys to qualify for the Prime Opinion leaderboard, so we didn’t test this feature.

Achieving Streaks

You can maintain a “Streak” by completing just one survey per day. If you achieve a seven-day Streak, you get entered into a prize draw. Prizes range between 50 and 1,000 points.

Our experience

We weren’t consistent enough to get a Streak on Prime Opinion, so we didn’t test this feature.

Level Up

Prime Opinion has “levels” you can graduate through to get added benefits and extra points.

You’ll see a colored circle at the top right of the screen on the Prime Opinion website or app, which will show what level you’re at. If you click on the circle, you’ll see the number of points you need to earn to reach the next level, your progress, and the bonus award you’ll get when you reach the next one.

Our experience

To level up on Prime Opinion, the first earning milestone we had to reach was 200 points (which we managed within an hour or two).

When we did this, we got 20 bonus points, and we graduated to Level 2. To reach Level 3, we needed to earn another 300 points, but we never progressed that far.

We were surprised and impressed by the smorgasbord of redemption options on Prime Opinion. There are several methods you can use to redeem your rewards:

ACH Transfer

For ACH transfers, Prime Opinion has a simple system: you can usually exchange 100 points for one dollar. You can redeem the following amounts:

• $5
• $10
• $20
• $50
• $100

After your first cashout, two more options will open up; you’ll be able to cash out your points in denominations of $1 and $2.

If you withdraw such a small amount, you’ll have to pay an extra 25 points, giving you a little less bang for your buck. In other words, the exchange rate for these options is:

• $1 for 125 points
• $2 for 225 points

We chose to redeem our rewards as a $5 ACH transfer. Prime Opinion said we would receive our reward within 30 minutes.

Venmo

Venmo is one of the redemption methods available on Prime Opinion. It gives you the same exchange rates and denominations you can get with ACH transfers:

• $1 for 125 points
• $2 for 225 points
• $5 for 500 points
• $10 for 1,000 points
• $20 for 2,000 points
• $50 for 5,000 points
• $100 for 10,000 points

Again, the $1–$2 options won’t be available for your first cashout, for which you’ll need to redeem at least 500 points.

PayPal

If you want to redeem via PayPal, you can choose among the following five options:

• $5 for 500 points
• $10 for 1,000 points
• $20 for 2,000 points
• $50 for 5,000 points
• $100 for 10,000 points

Gift cards

We saw gift cards for over 100 retailers on Prime Opinion. All of the cards we saw had an exchange rate of 100 points for $1. For example, $5 gift cards cost 500 points, and $10 gift cards cost 1,000 points.

The following retailers had $1 gift cards for 100 points:

• Dick’s Sporting Goods
• Pilot Flying J

Retailers we saw with $5 gift cards included:

• Southwest Airlines (5,000 points or more)
• Airbnb (5,000 points or more)

Prepaid cards

You can choose to redeem your Prime Opinion rewards as a prepaid card.

If you go for this option, you can choose between a physical Visa card or a virtual Visa. You can use physical Visas almost anywhere that takes card payments—online or offline. Virtual Visas can also be used online, or you can add them to your mobile wallet or digital payment services to use in physical stores that allow contactless payments.
