DoorDash is the largest delivery app in the US and has been a staple side hustle for thousands of Americans for years. Now, the company is offering new ways for gig workers to make extra cash beyond delivering food and groceries.
DoorDash is piloting a new standalone app called Tasks. Drivers, known as “Dashers,” can complete activities that help train AI models, which DoorDash says helps these systems “understand the physical world.” 1
This isn’t the first time gig apps have dipped their toes into AI training. While DoorDash and other platforms’ forays into AI may offer struggling gig workers a much-needed source of income, some argue that this is the beginning of a dystopian future of AI-driven work.
