Job Description:
Arine is seeking a Manager of Data Engineering for our Solutions team. In this critical role, you will lead a team of talented data engineers to build and maintain scalable data pipelines and data infrastructure. This critical role combines technical leadership with hands-on expertise in system and process design, ensuring that data quality, performance, cost optimization and system reliability remain at the forefront of our data operations.
The ideal candidate will bring a combination of deep engineering expertise with an emphasis on data architecture and system design. The ideal candidate has proficiency with AWS and a track record of delivering scalable cloud data pipelines.
What You'll be Doing:
Execution
- Lead and mentor a team of 4 data engineers, fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture
- Build and maintain scalable data pipelines, ensuring data quality is the highest priority
- Integrate software engineering best practices into the Data Services organization, including unit testing, integration testing, and release management
- Harden existing ETL pipelines, ensuring resilience to data and process failures
- Implement data validation and monitoring processes for data ingestion to ensure integrity and transparency
- Optimize data processing, focusing on speed improvements and cost reductions (e.g., incremental data processing)
- Work cross-functionally with engineering teams to integrate processes and improve overall data workflows across the platform
- Document and communicate system design, process improvements, and technical decisions
- Ensure adherence to security and compliance standards, including data encryption, access control, and segregation
People Management
- Conduct regular 1-on-1 meetings with team members to provide guidance, support, and performance feedback
- Set clear goals and objectives with each direct report, aligning individual contributions with overall team and organizational goals
- Review and evaluate team performance semi-annually, providing constructive feedback and recognition
- Lead discussions on career development, training needs, and potential growth opportunities for team members
Continuous Improvement
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the data engineering team by encouraging experimentation and the adoption of new methods and best practices
- Stay updated on industry trends, tools, and technologies to enhance the team’s capabilities and overall effectiveness
- Evaluate and recommend tools and processes that improve data operations efficiency and effectiveness
Data Governance
- Ensure compliance with data governance policies and best practices, maintaining data integrity and security across all data operations efforts
- Develop and maintain documentation for data operations methodologies, processes, and standards to promote knowledge sharing and consistency within the team
- Create and implement access roles adhering to the Minimum Necessary HIPAA privacy rule
Who You Are and What You Bring:
- MS in Computer Science, Math, Physics, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in software or data engineering
- 2+ years of relevant and direct management experience
- Proven experience building complex ETL pipelines from scratch, with a focus on scalability and reliability
- Strong background in AWS (Lambda, EventBridge, Step Functions, S3, ECS, etc.).
- Proficiency in Python (for orchestration and configuration) and SQL (for data transformations)
- Experience with Snowflake for data transformations and Jenkins for CI/CD pipelines
- Knowledge of security and encryption standards and best practices
- Hands-on experience with system design
- Strong technical documentation skills
- Critical and strategic thinking
- Team development including coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback
- Ability to form highly collaborative relationships with peers and stakeholders
- Experience working in an Agile environment

The posted range represents the expected salary for this position and does not include any other potential components of the compensation package (including bonus and equity), benefits, and perks. Ultimately, the final pay decision will consider factors such as your experience, job level, location, and other relevant job-related criteria. The salary range for this position is: $170,000-190,000/year.
